The Mishicot Police Department will be cracking down on drunken driving and will be filling the streets with additional law enforcement officials from Aug. 20 to Sept. 6.

The campaign, “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” has been designed to limit the number of impaired drivers on the roadways. Police officials are alerting motorists of the new drunken driving laws that will lengthen the jail time of anyone who is arrested for alcohol-related driving offenses.

Police want drivers to know of the campaign so that they will not drink and drive during that time and throughout the rest of the year. Last year alone, there was nearly 45,000 drunken driving arrests in Wisconsin and 238 people were killed in alcohol-related crashed. Police officials want to crack down on the laws to prevent deaths related to alcohol.
