Honda investigates random airbag deployment
Posted on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 at 5:08 pm
Nearly a dozen complaints have been filed after drivers of 2008 Honda Accords had their side airbags deploy for no reason.
The most recent malfunction happened in Georgia. A 26 year-old man was driving on Interstate 85 when his side airbags exploded. He says his left view was completely obscured by the airbags and was lucky to leave unscathed. His Honda does not appear to have any side impact or sign of a collision.
Last year Honda recalled thousands of cars after a dozen customers complained that the driver’s side airbag deployed too forcefully. So far, the automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration do not plan on issuing a recall. They claim they have not been able to make a connection to a common defect.

Wisconsin politician arrested for DWI
Posted on Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 at 3:50 pm
Wisconsin’s former state senator, Randy Hopper, was arrested and charged with drunk driving over the weekend. Police pulled over Hopper’s black Suburban after a witness called 911 claiming the driver was driving erratically.
Hopper, who recently lost senate seat to Jessica King, refused to take a breath test. Law enforcement administered field sobriety tests, which the man failed. The politician was arrested and taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail where his blood alcohol content was measured above the legal 0.08 limit.
The former Republican state senator was released early on Monday morning but could possibly lose his driver’s license or pay a hefty fine for his first drunk driving offense.

Man admits drinking before crash
Posted on Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 at 4:26 pm
A drunk driver responsible for a serious car accident over the summer has plead guilty to two felony charges of drunk driving and intoxicated vehicular homicide. The 30 year-old man had a blood alcohol content three times over the legal limit at the time of the crash.
Law enforcement says he was driving between 50 to 70 mph when he rear ended a truck in Grand Falls. The driver of the truck and two passengers were injured in the accident and a fourth passenger later died from his injuries after being ejected from the vehicle.
The drunk driver had four other DWI charges before the crash. Prosecutors have recommended a 30 year prison sentence with ten years suspended for his guilty plea. His sentencing date is scheduled for December 8th.

Car vs. Deer accidents decrease
Posted on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011 at 8:00 pm
A study by Statefarm reveals that Wisconsin is ranked seventh in the nation for most car-deer collisions. However, these types of car accidents are on the decline all over the country. Wisconsin has seen a 1% decrease since last year.
Drivers in this state have a one in 97 chance of hitting a deer. October is the second most dangerous month for car-deer accidents since deer start to mate and migrate in the fall. November has the highest risk of getting into an accident with a deer.
State law enforcement suggest, with the drivers’ best interests in mind, that motorists will be safest to not avoid a deer in the road. Swerving out of the way could result in more damage and more serious injuries.
