Car drives into home, two injured

Posted on Monday, January 9th, 2012 at 8:41 pm

Early Sunday morning a vehicle crashed into a Green Bay house, destroying the home and seriously injuring the driver and passenger.

Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the crash. Rescue crews found the car almost completely inside the house with its front wheels falling through into the basement. Their car was towed out and crews had to use the Jaws of Life to remove the passengers before taking them to St. Vincent Hospital. They are currently in critical condition.

The two people who live in the home were not injured. Due to the extensive damage to their house, they are unable to live there while the investigation is open.

Wisconsin traffic deaths under 600

Posted on Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 at 4:46 pm

In 2011, fatalities on Wisconsin roadways was fewer than 600 for the fourth year in a row.

A total of 569 people lost their lives last year, seven more than in 2010 but nearly 60 fewer than Wisconsin’s five-year average, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. 2011 marked the first time in 84 years, since 1927-1927, that Wisconsin had vehicular deaths under 600 for four years in a row.

Motorcycle crash deaths decreased 18 percent, from 103 in 2010 to 85. The number of pedestrian, bicycle, and car-related fatalities increased, offsetting the number of people killed on motorcycles. According to the director of the DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Safety, many of the deaths could have been avoided and the deadly crashes were caused by irresponsible drivers and poor driving habits.
