Two dead in snowmobile accidents

Posted on Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 at 7:51 pm

Two people lost their lives over the weekend after crashing in unrelated snowmobile accidents.

A 45 year-old man died after him and five others riding on Beaver Dam Lake suddenly plunged into open water. All six were rescued from the water and four were taken to the hospital, where the man later died. Officials at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation strongly urge people to stay off of the lake because it is extremely unstable.

A 58 year-old woman was killed after she hit a tree while riding a snowmobile in Langland County. Officers declared her dead at the scene and do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Dodge police cruisers recalled

Posted on Thursday, February 16th, 2012 at 7:34 pm

Nearly 10,000 Dodge Charger police cruisers are being recalled by Chrysler Group, LLC for defects in the anti-lock break system and low beam headlights.

The automaker believes the headlight defect could stem from overheating problems in the bulb harness connector. The overheating could, in turn, negatively affect the anti-lock breaks, resulting in a loss of electronic stability control and anti-lock break functions.

No accidents or injuries have been reported due to these defects. Only the 2011 and 2012 Dodge Charger model years are affected by the recall. Chrysler will repair the vehicles free of charge when the recall begins in March.

Two girls died at the scene while the third one died at the hospital the next day. Four teens are still in the hospital in critical condition; two others, including the driver, are said to be in satisfactory condition. A total of nine girls were in the SUV at the time of the accident, which occurred just after 3:30 am on Saturday.

According to officers, many of the girls were not wearing seat belts. All the victims were students at Campbellsport High School and were on the varsity and junior varsity soccer teams.

Our thoughts are with the families and friends of girls affected by this accident.

Another victim found in Florida pileup accident

Posted on Friday, February 3rd, 2012 at 11:32 pm

An 11th victim was found in the wreckage following a deadly and massive car pileup on Interstate 75 in Gainesville, Florida.

Heavy smoke from brush fires and dense fog caused Florida Highway Patrol to shut down part of the interstate for several hours. Just 15 minutes after reopening the highway, a dozen cars, six tractor-trailers, and a motor home collided. Along with the 11 deceased, 18 were taken to the hospital.

The impacts caused several cars to burst into flames, and investigators are teaming up with anthropologists from the University of Florida to help identify the deceased. So far only eight victims have been identified.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of those affected by this horrific crash.
