Wisconsin Department of Transportation reminds drivers to be mindful of deer

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has released a warning asking drivers to be cautious of deer in the upcoming months.

October and November are the height of mating season for deer in Wisconsin. The next two months will see more deer activity than the rest of the year.

Last year, there were more than 18,000 reported deer accidents in Wisconsin. To help save the deer and prevent potential human injuries in these kinds of accidents, the Department of Transportation has issued the following safety tips:

  • Eliminate all distractions while driving.
  • A deer staring into your headlights in the middle of the street is terrified and will not move. Try to stop the car.
  • Cars should avoid swerving. Motorcycles should swerve as a last resort.
  • Always wear your seat belt.

Staying safe on the roads during this time of increased deer activity can help you avoid a car accident that can leave you injured. The Appleton car accident lawyers of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® ask that drivers exercise the utmost caution.
