La Crosse, Wisconsin police identified the body of a woman who was found drowned inside her vehicle in Swift Creek on New Year’s Day as 21-year-old Ellen Marie Ahmann, a student of Wisconsin State University and a local of Woodbury, Minnesota.

The La Crosse police said they will conduct an autopsy on the body to find out the cause of Ahmann’s death.

According to Sergeant Randy Rank, the police department, the fire department, and the La Crosse County Dive Unit responded to the accident site at Swift Creek near Second Street, Jackson Street, and the Norplex Drive at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1.

Ahmann’s car was found beneath approximately six to eight feet of water. It took around 12 hours to bring the car to the surface, at which time Ahmann was found dead in the vehicle.
