11 year-old bicyclist in hospital after crash

An 11 year-old Wisconsin Rapids boy is in the hospital after he was hit by a car while riding his bike Monday night. According to police, the boy had a red light when he crossed the intersection of West Grand Avenue and West Riverview Expressway.

The 79 year-old driver who hit the boy told authorities he did not see the boy crossing the street. The bicyclist was transported to Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield in serious condition.

Wisconsin Rapid’s city ordinance requires that bicyclists who ride their bikes through crosswalks obey the same laws as motorists, including yielding to cars and pedestrians.
