Injured driver files lawsuit against Wood County

A 38 year-old Wisconsin Rapids man has filed a lawsuit against Wood County, the Sheriff’s Department, a deputy, and their insurance companies after he was injured on his moped last October when a deputy hit him with his squad car.

According to the police report, the moped driver was turning left on Highway 73 and Church Avenue when the deputy, looking at his phone, proceeded into the intersection and collided with the moped. The man was knocked off his vehicle and onto the hood of the car.

The moped driver is seeking compensation for pain and suffering, loss of income, medical expenses, and possible permanent disability. The deputy was cited for distracted driving after the accident.
