Investigation launched into air bag that cut driver

The National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) will launch an investigation into a complaint it received last month by a driver of a 2012 Hyundai Elantra who says a metal bracket deployed with a side-curtain air bag during an accident.

The metal bracket cut his ear in half. In his complaint to the NHTSA, he warns them of the dangerous possibilities had the bracket cut his neck.

Hyundai says it has not received any other reports of injuries as a result of a deployed side-curtain air bag. The Elantra was recently named the North American Car of the Year at a Detroit auto show.
