Hit-and-run driver arrested for accident that killed service dog

Waukesha police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old Milwaukee man with felony hit-and-run causing bodily injury after he hit a woman and her service dog while they were walking through a crosswalk.

The woman suffered a broken foot, but her golden retriever was killed in the accident. Witnesses were able to give authorities specific descriptions of the SUV that sped away after the collision, which led to his arrest the next day.

The Journal Sentinel reports that the man admitted to being involved in the accident, but he says he did not know he had struck a dog. The driver has also been charged with failure to yield the right-of-way and driving without insurance.
