Tesla sales decrease after blog posts images of Model S car on fire

Jalopnik, an online blog, reportedly posted images and uploaded a video of the Tesla Model S on fire last Wednesday, October 2, causing Tesla’s shares to plummet.

Tesla’s shares dropped by 6.2% to $180.95 on the Nasdaq. This was the company’s greatest one-day decline since mid-July.

Tesla attested to the images’ authenticity and said the fire was a result of a driver’s running over of a “large metallic object”, which caused a large dent to the front end of the car.

In a statement, Tesla said the driver pulled over and got out off the vehicle as per the instruction of the car’s alert system.

According to Washington State Patrol spokesman Chris Webb, they have yet to determine if the Model S lithium-ion battery pack was compromised.

Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident. However, many are injured due to auto defects every year.
